#25 all star week

So today instead of writing about each individual all star topic/game I’m just going to lump them all together. And because it’s my only legit week off I will be taking all star week off, well at least Tuesday I’m not sure if I’ll have enough to write about on Thursday or not but we will see. Kind of ironic that it comes a week after I took the Fourth of July off but it is what it is you know.

I’m not particularly excited for any of 3 all star events so I’ll just start with the one happening the soonest, that’s the futures game on Sunday. And like every year both teams, the world and the USA, are absolutely stacked. To be perfectly honest I already forgot the majority of each roster, so there isn’t too much I can say. But I remember one player from the world team that I’m really really excited to see, that’s the 5 tool player in the Nats organization Victor Robles. This 19 year old is having a great year in A ball and literally has all 5 tools and is already a top notch prospect, did I mention he’s only 19? Because he’s only 19. Might of just turned 20 but still he’s young, I hope he at least shows off one of his great tools.

Now onto the event I’m somewhat excited for, the home run derby. Giancarlo Stanton will be defending his title and the all star game is in Miami this year so he has home field advantage. Plus the big boy Aaron Judge will be competing as well, he hits the ball just as hard and just as far as Stanton. There’s another big boy competing who hits the ball hard, the Twins third baseman Miguel Sano. Plus the 21 year old Dodger with the huge uppercut, Cody Bellinger. Those big boys alone should hit some bombs. The only player I don’t think should be there is Gary Sanchez, I know he can swing the bat but the dude only has 13 homers cmon. I would not bet on this event should be a very good derby, everyone has a real chance to win. My pick to win is Stanton, I really like Sano’s chances but you just can’t bet against Giancarlo Stanton in a home run derby.

Now the part I’m least excited for, the actual all star game. Of course I’ll still tune in it’s still baseball so I’ll watch it no matter what. But I am so glad that the winner doesn’t get him field advantage in the World Series anymore, if you want it to be fan vote then it shouldn’t matter one bit. Because Joe Schmo from South Dakota isn’t voting for the best players is he? Of course not he’s voting for his favorite players, and Joe Schmo’s vote should in no way influence home field advantage. That’s why I don’t vote for the all star game it’s not about who’s playing the best it’s just a popularity contest, I’m so glad it’s not important anymore.

#24 all star week

First and foremost I will be taking next week off for the all star break, no baseball means not much for me to talk about. Today I plan on writing about the futures game, the home run derby, and the all star snubs. Just my two cents about the upcoming all star break.

I’ll start with the futures game. In case you didn’t know the futures game is basically the all star game of prospects through all levels of the minors. I love this game every year I make sure to record/watch it. And I’ll talk about the game after it but before all I can tell you about is who I’m excited to see in the game, and that is Astros shortstop Alex Bregman. The 22 year old was the second overall pick just last year. The shortstop from LSU didn’t look all that impressive to so I was a little surprised to see him go number 2. But he’s hit an impressive .308 with 18 homers in the minors so far this season.

Now the home run derby. Now I have absolutely no clue who will be in it yet. What I do know is that it’ll be in San Diego so my pick to win it, if he’s in it of course, is home town boy Wil Myers.

Now I don’t really have a full list of all star snubs but I do have one. And that one is Starling Marte the Pirates outfielder. I know he’s been injured on and off throughout the year but he’s hitting .320 with 25 steals. He’s a final vote candidate so he might get in regardless but I still think the numbers he’s putting up is all star worthy.
