Again this trade is a week late and I know but better late than never right? Today I will be talking a little about the Yoenis Cespedes trade to the New York Mets. I believe this is the last trade for me to talk about, at least for the time being.
The Tigers sent Yoenis Cespedes to the Mets for two minor league right handers in Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa. The Mets really improved their offense especially when the Nats are struggling to pull away with the division like everyone thought they would, they really needed to make a trade like this. But I think it’s a brilliant trade on the Tigers side. They got two close to MLB ready pitchers much like they got in the David Price deal. When I wrote about the Tigers before I mentioned they’re probably going to trade these guys and make a quick turnaround, and it looks like it’s exactly what they’re doing. What’s the Tigers problem this year and years past? The pitching right? They have really improved the pitching for the future in just these two trades. Unfortunately they weren’t winning this year so they had to trade them but they really did their homework I definitely give them a thumbs up. Michael Fulmer was a first round pick back in 2011, now he’s 22 close to being a big leaguer and has a sub 2 era this year in the minors. Fulmer has nasty stuff, mid 90’s fastball both a slider and a curveball and a change up that has a chance to be an average pitch. With Daniel Norris (David Price trade) and Michael Fulmer (Cespedes trade) the Detroit Tigers potentially have a good 1-2 combo at the top of the rotation.
